Friley’s Fantastic Friday Flashback: Anguilla

[Conversation with a store customer, April 2013…]

ClosedSign2Her:  Where are you going next?
Me:  Brazil, Anguilla & Toronto. I’ll be closed for awhile.
Her:  Wow! Back to back? That’s great! [pause] Will you be getting shots?
Me: Shots?
Her: Don’t you need shots to go to Angola?
Me (smiling):  Anguilla. It’s in the Caribbean.
Her (still looking confused):  Ohhhhhhh…

aicaribIt’s true. There are many people who have never heard of the island of Anguilla and, when asked, often mistake it for Angola or Antigua. But for those who are in-the-know (or simply paid attention in geography class), you know that Anguilla is a unique little northern Caribbean island that can be accessed easily from the United States by way of St. Maarten. And when I say little, I really mean it, as the land area is only 35 square miles.

To be clear, though, that’s 35 square miles of bodacious beauty and open welcoming people (many of whom own their own land), but I’ll be sharing more about the people and my experience at the 2nd annual Anguilla Lit Festival: A Literary Jollification another time. For now, I’d just like to share what I like to call beachfront beauty shots as many of us gear up for the cold weather season. Besides, today is Friley’s Fantastic Friday Flashback! 😉 Enjoy your day…

The view from CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa. Yep. It’s real. Real nice.

Had lunch at Da Vida on Crocus Bay. Great food, great view.

My personal work space at Shoal Bay Villas. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Sandy Island is a stretch of sand that is merely 25 x 150 yards with no electricity & great food. Super cool way to spend an afternoon.

On my personal time (and dime), I stayed at Frangipani Beach Resort, a luxury boutique hotel with a view of the Viceroy. I. loved. it. No. Really. #mystyle

First to arrive for an impromptu cocktail party at Ultimacy, an 8 bedroom villa for rent in a residential neighborhood overlooking the sea, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Shoal Bay Villas

The view from my delightful beachfront suite at Frangipani on Meads Bay. It rained on this day and I didn’t care in the least. Would you?

Disclosure: I was invited to the 2nd annual Anguilla Lit Fest by the Anguilla Tourist Board. As is always the case, all opinions are my own. I just wouldn’t bother otherwise.
